Our Mission

At New Step, our mission is to support individuals and families through every stage of growth by offering personalized, compassionate, and practical services that build communication, independence, relationships, and meaningful life skills—one new step at a time.

Recognizing Every Individual’s Strengths

We recognize that every individual brings a unique profile of strengths, needs, and ways of learning. Our role is to thoughtfully support areas of challenge while building on existing strengths, helping students develop skills, confidence, and flexibility.

Through individualized planning and collaborative support, we aim to minimize barriers, promote independence, and empower each person to reach their fullest potential.

Building Relationships First

At New Step Consultation, every session begins with intentional relationship-building. By creating a sense of trust, safety, and connection, we help students feel regulated, engaged, and ready to learn. This foundation allows our team to better understand each student’s communication style and needs, maximizing their ability to learn, participate, and make meaningful progress.

Hands-On Leadership & Continuity of Care

Our Executive Director, Tahnee Lam, and her senior team members remain closely involved in each student’s program and is deeply familiar with their goals, progress, and needs. This level of oversight allows for thoughtful guidance, consistency across the team, and, when appropriate, hands-on involvement to support students and staff—ensuring high-quality, individualized care at every step.

Experience and Expertise

  • 30+ years of combined experience

  • We have supported over 500 individuals — neurotypical, gifted, and neurodiverse — from early childhood through
